History
Hershey Bears
The Hershey Bears® hockey team originated in 1932 as the Hershey B'ars, joining the American Hockey League in 1938 as the Hershey Bears. The team remains the longest continuously operating AHL franchise in its original city, having won a league-record 13 Calder Cups while consistently ranking among attendance leaders.
Sweet Success
Since 2005, the Hershey Bears have been the primary developmental affiliate of the Washington Capitals.
This affiliation has been one of the AHL's biggest success stories, as the Bears have produced over 70 players who have gone on to suit up for the NHL club, several of whom helped contribute to Washington's Stanley Cup championship in 2018.
Hershey has benefited from the affiliation by reaching the Calder Cup Finals seven times in that span, winning championships in 2006, 2009, 2010, 2023, and 2024.
